Important Recipe Information

  1. List all ingredients in the order used. Make sure all ingredients are included in the directions - and that all ingredients in the directions are included in the ingredients list.

  2. Include all amounts and container sizes: 2 (8 oz.) cans; 1 (14-oz.) pkg. Use parentheses to separate amounts.

  3. Abbreviate measurements in the ingredients list (see Standard Abbreviations), but spell them out in the directions.

  4. Use ingredient names in the directions: "Combine flour and sugar" instead of "Combine first two ingredients."

  5. Include temperatures and all cooking, chilling, baking, or freezing times.

  6. Make sure ingredients and directions are clear, thorough, and accurate. For example, don't assume the reader knows how to make yeast bread. It is a good idea to have someone else read your recipe to be sure it is clear.

  7. Ingredients may included trademarked names such as Miracle Whip. Do not use trademarked words for recipe titles.
